How did the American and French Revolutions effect the Haitian revolution?
Toussaint L'Ouverture was directly inspired by the American Revolution. He was fascinated by the idea that they had achieved a self-governing society. He wanted Haiti which was still a part of France at the time to also be self governed. This idea made Toussaint L'Ouverture turn Haiti into its own country. The French Revolution caused everyone to have something to complain about. Slaves wanted to be free. Slaves revolted when they heard a rumor that the king of France had freed them. The Haitian Revolution was influenced by this revolution and inspired them to enhance the concepts of human rights, universal citizenship, and all people participating in the government.
