How did political thought change?
Toussaint L'Ouverture provided the people of Haiti with political leadership through the Haitian Revolution. His goal was to do anything possible to free the slaves, so he constantly switched political positions sometimes in different nations to try to shift political thought into freeing the slaves. He was not successful at first which is why he had to move back and forth between nations, but he eventually became the leadership figure of the Haitian people. L'Ouverture's vision of equality became the cause of a shift in political thought, but he wasn't rewarded for it because he was imprisoned by the French and disliked by the slaves themselves because he thought that they should continue working in the sugar farms for he saw it as a necessity. It's unfortunate that Toussaint L'Ouverture wasn't appreciated in his time, but in modern day he is considered by many to be a Haitian hero and the face of the entire revolution.
